What is Ceremonial Cacao?

Ceremonial cacao is pure, minimally processed cacao made from stone ground beans, with nothing added. It’s different from everyday chocolate, which is usually refined and mixed with sugar and dairy, a process that strips out much of the bean’s natural character.

It comes from ceremonial traditions practised for centuries in Central America, where cacao was treated as a sacred plant rather than a sweet treat. It’s typically prepared as a warm drink, whisked with hot water rather than boiled, and sipped slowly as part of a ritual or moment of stillness and intention setting.

People turn to it for a grounding, heart opening effect and a gentle sense of focus, without the jittery lift that comes from caffeine alone.

  • Pure Ingerdients

Made from 100% ground whole cacao beans without separating the butter or adding refined sugars.

  • Active Compounds

Rich in theobromine, anandamide (the "bliss molecule"), and magnesium, which gently elevate mood and increase blood flow.

  • Ethical Sourcing

Sourced organically and sustainably with respect for grower communities.

Why We Recommend Cacao Guardians

Ethically sourced and ceremonial grade, Cacao Guardians work directly with growers in Guatemala. Before leaving, the cacao is blessed in ceremony by Mayan Wisdom Keepers, an intentional step that gives it its ceremonial character and energetic integrity.

How the Practice Works

Create space:

Sit in a quiet room or a communal circle, maybe with a few candles or natural elements.

Set an intention:

Hold the warm cup, breathe deeply, and focus on a personal goal like clarity, gratitude, or emotional release.

Prepare mindfully:

Gently heat water or plant-based milk (avoiding dairy, which blocks nutrient absorption) and whisk the grated cacao paste until smooth, optionally adding spices like cinnamon or cayenne.

Sip and integrate:

Drink slowly while engaging in meditation, journaling, breathwork, or soft movement.
